Frequently Asked Questions

Question: “What are your qualifications as a legal writer?

Answer: Simply put, I am an attorney. There is no more solid ground on which to build a legal writing service.

I have a law school education, am a member of the California and Washington bars, and have a quarter century of experience working as an attorney and contract administrator.

I know what I am writing about from firsthand experience helping law firms to market their services. I know how to structure a solid business contract because that was my bread and butter as a lawyer.

That’s what I help you do, as your healthcare freelance copywriter.

Question: “What kinds of assignments do you handle?”

Answer: If you are a solo practitioner or work for a law firm, I write the copy you use on your website to reach out to potential clients. Whether it is upgrading your website landing page or starting a regular blog feature, I provide carefully researched, accurate, and informative copy that educates and mobilizes those prospects to become clients.

If you need legal documentation to support a business transaction, I help you to negotiate and draft the contract and its supporting exhibits.

Question: “What does it cost to hire you for a project?”

Answer: My rates are highly competitive for legal writing services, especially when you consider the experience and expertise I bring to your projects. For any writing assignment, let me know what you have in mind and I’ll quote a price for you.

Question: “How long will it take you to complete my project?”

Answer: Depending on the complexity of your writing deliverable, I like to have two to four weeks to complete a writing assignment. This gives me enough time to draft, edit and polish until we’re both happy with the result.

I understand that there may be circumstances in which you can’t wait that long. If the job is a rush project, please let me know the date by which you must have the copy. Due to prior commitments, I may not be able to take on an urgent assignment, but if I take the job then you’ll have the copy by the deadline.

Question: “What happens if I want you to revise your work?”

Answer: Revisions are included in the fee we’ve agreed to for the assignment. If you are not completely satisfied with what I deliver, then I will revise the copy according to your specific guidelines – if you assign the edits within 30 days of your receipt of the copy, and the edits do not constitute a change in the agreed-upon assignment.

Question: “What if we change our mind and decide to cancel the project?”

The standard fee agreement is based on half of the agreed-upon project fee payable in advance, and the other half payable upon project completion. If you decide to cancel the project at any time before completion, the initial payment will constitute a “kill fee” for my services rendered up to the cancelation.

Question: “How do I order from you?

Answer: All you need to do is to call me at (971) 285-5370 and let me know what you’re looking for, and together we can develop a solution that will fit your needs. Or if you prefer, you can reach me at LinkedIn or email me at al@alexanderlake.com.

There is no charge to discuss your project and to give you an estimate.
